Smartphone Battery: 10 Mistakes That Ruin It And How To Fix It

Smartphone battery life is one of the most critical concerns for users. Here are 10 mistakes to avoid damaging the battery.

The battery is one of the most delicate components of the smartphone. You must “treat it well” to avoid the risk of damaging it, thus reducing the autonomy of your device and increasing the possibility of damaging your smartphone. A few precautions are enough to use your smartphone in the right way and not damage the battery.

Below, we will analyze 10 errors that ruin the smartphone battery and also describe the possible solutions to be put into practice to remedy and protect this component.

Allow The Battery To Discharge Completely

One of the most frequent mistakes that risk ruining the battery is to discharge it, reaching up to 0% charge altogether. This component, in fact, goes under stress when it works with a shallow charge level. Once you reach 20% of the remaining charge, therefore, it is best to recharge.

Recharge The Battery Up To 100%

Likewise, it is advisable not to recharge the battery up to 100%. In fact, once the 80% charge is exceeded, recharging the battery risks being harmful to the internal components, also due to an increase in temperatures. It is, therefore, better to maintain the charge level between a minimum of 20% and a maximum of 80%. In maximizing the autonomy of your device, it is necessary to choose a model with a battery with a very high mAh capacity.

Charge Your Phone At Night.

For the reason seen previously, therefore, one of the most frequent errors on the battery is represented by charging the smartphone at night. In this type of situation, leaving the charged battery connected to the mains for many hours can cause damage and reduce the adequate capacity of this component. It is, therefore, better to recharge in the evening or the morning, taking advantage of the fast charging technologies that have become increasingly safe for the battery today.

Allow The Battery To Overheat.

Be careful of temperatures that are too high: overheating the battery is always a bad idea. Lithium-ion batteries, in fact, work well at room temperature and risk being damaged at temperatures that are too high.

Leaving the phone charging (a procedure that involves a slight increase in the temperature of the device) under the sun’s rays or in a scorching place, therefore, risks damaging the battery. In these cases, it is better to prefer a cool place.

Cooling The Battery Too Much

The opposite situation is also dangerous: excessive cold can damage the battery. Placing your phone in a freezer to cool it down and protect the battery from damage caused by overheating, for example, is a myth. It would help if you always preferred the ambient temperature that offers conditions that do not damage the battery.

Use A Poor-Quality Charger.

Beware of poor-quality components, primarily if you use fast charging. Using a non-original charger, in fact, is a risk and could damage the battery, especially if it is a very cheap product and lacks the safety certifications and quality standards required by the smartphone manufacturer. Using a poor-quality charger is one of the reasons behind the slow charging of your smartphone.

Charge Your Smartphone From Your Computer.

Charging the smartphone battery from the computer’s USB port should be avoided. This is a practice to be used only in extreme cases when you need a little charge and there is no charger available. Your computer’s USB ports may not be optimized for optimal electrical current flow to charge the battery without damaging it. In any case, an occasional charge from the computer does not ruin the battery, but prolonged use could create some problems.

Charge The Smartphone With The Cover

Especially in summer, it is good practice to charge your smartphone without a cover. In fact, a case could reduce the thermal dissipation of the device during the charging phase, causing the internal components to overheat. This applies, in particular, to thicker cases made of more thermally insulating materials. To avoid damage, therefore, it is better to remove the cover before charging the smartphone.

Reduce The Screen Brightness

The display is one of the most energy-consuming components of the smartphone. Consequently, a super bright display risks putting stress on the battery, especially in case of prolonged use at maximum brightness and under sunlight (with high temperatures). Better to activate the adaptive brightness and reduce the consumption of this component so as not to burden the battery.

Continue To Use Your Smartphone If The Battery Fails.

If the battery starts to cause problems, it is necessary to contact the smartphone manufacturer’s support service and check the possibility of replacing this component. Prolonged use of a damaged battery could cause further problems for the smartphone, which, in extreme cases, could lead to it no longer turning on, with the risk of losing data.

When the battery life starts to drop drastically, the battery registers high temperatures, or the phone restarts on its own, even after formatting the device, it is advisable to contact assistance and, if necessary, replace the battery. This is a necessary expense to avoid having to dispose of your old phone due to a no longer usable battery.
